Western Colorado Center for the Arts (The Art Center) 7th and Orchard in Grand Junction
First Friday Opening August 4th, 6:30-9:00 pm
Show opens and continues through the month of August.
Mary Hertert (Grand Junction) embodies the installation potential of fibers, with suspended spirit figures and an interior garden made out of a myriad of fabrics. Linda Jean Strand (Aurora, CO) and PJ Bergin (Salida, CO)
Common Threads includes examples of weaving, papermaking, felting, knitting, and embroidery. Artists from Grand Junction’s Art Quilt Association (AQuA) demonstrate the possibilities of fibers’ two-dimensionality, with a dazzling array of quilts that range from abstract to representational. Also included in the exhibition are Pat Hickman (Garnerville, NY) freestanding forms made of animal membrane and wood pulp. Naomi Adams (Pocatello, ID), and Navajo blankets from The Art Center’s permanent collection.
All four Art Center galleries are devoted to the exhibition, with local anonymous yarn bombers adding ornament to The Art Center’s courtyard as well.
The Links Community
is full of incredible people – talented, exceptional and giving of time and energy to make this community work. The Grand Junction Art Center, Jeremy Poland, Willow Creek Teas and Spices, Tanya Risnes, Michelle McDowell of Vivid Inspirations all have made it possible for Color Creek Fiber Art to thrive here.
TAFA– Textile and Fiber Artists List is my go-to site for artisan made fiber art. In fact this should be the go-to site for any fiber artist who sells, shows or just wants to be part of a fantastic fiber community. Rachel Biel, the creative and enthusiastic mind behind the list is instrumental in helping me design and launch the new Color Creek Fiber Art website. TAFA is an amazing resource for information, community, discussion and assistance in on-line presence for those of us dedicated to promoting the fiber arts.
GV Magazine – The Grand Valley Magazine, located here in Grand Junction, CO is a high quality magazine that promotes the arts and culture of our local Grand Valley. Kristin Hartman and her highly skilled team of photographers and editors provided Color Creek Fiber Art with its promotional printed Lookbook 2015 and with printed publicity in their magazine. Could not have gotten this far without them.
SPIN – Silk Painters International is my specific organization that allows me to interact with the artists who pursue the fine art of silk painting. Great resource for conferences, workshops and forums in this very specific of fiber mediums.
Western Colorado Center for the Arts: Our local Grand Junction Center for the Arts is central to the lives of artists from all mediums. It is a center for education, for galleries, for a large permanent collection of fine art with a strong support system. It pays to be a member, a showing artist, an instructor and a board member for this most special of places.
SDA – Surface Design Association is one of my professional associations providing me with the international perspective I need to keep up with a world of innovation, design and inspiration. SDA produces an international quality magazine for its members that is an excellent reference for the arts dedicated to the changing and modifying of surfaces from fiber to metal to rock.
Vivid Inspirations – Michelle McDowell is a Graphic Designer, Website Manager, Photographer and Fine Artist all in one incredible package. Michele is instrumental in keeping my website up to date and running smoothly. She also helps me with photographing my products and local events that I am involved in, as well as any graphic design needs that I may have.
Artizan Made – Artizan: Made by Hand is a collective of shops offering fine, carefully curated handmade products focused on home decór and eco-fashion. We invite you to connect with our shop owners and support handmade!
Tanya Risnes – Wellness coach, Yoga teacher, Advocate for you. Tanya teaches several levels of Yoga and Kundalini workshops as well as puts on retreats that combine artwork, spirit and good food. Visit her website for a complete listing of classes, retreats and ways that you can benefit from her coaching.
Jeremy Poland – Photographer, graphic artist and designer. Jeremy primarily creates fashionable and exciting portraits of high school seniors for their yearbooks. His talents go beyond that into fashion shots for Color Creek Fiber Art as well.
