Thursday Teaser: Oct 15th’s Teaser is Needle Felting. This is a great way to sculpt wool using a simple barbed needle. Make little animals or flowers for a hat. If you want to bring in a wool sweater, then I’ll show you how to add a design into the sweater. This is a great anywhere style project when you have to sit in the doctor’s office and can’t wet felt. One hour will get you pretty far into the technique. $15 gets you some wool and needle loan.
Deep into Technique: Saturday Oct. 17th is an intensive silk painting workshop that begins at 10 pm and goes until 4. Anything and everything you have wanted to know about silk painting techniques. It’s helpful to have had the basic intro course but not necessary. You’ll get plenty of practice and time to explore, ask que stions and paint to your heart’s content. This is great for anyone who wants to jump up a level or two in their painting.
Intro to Batik: Wed Oct 28th, 6-9 pm. Too fun to miss. We work on silk because it is quick drying. Same techniques can be used on cotton – with some modification. You’ll get a practice piece and then a scarf blank to design and add color however you want. Iron it out and take it home. $45 includes all materials.
Intro to Fused Silk Fiber: Saturday, Dec 5th, 1-4 pm (moved from Nov. 7th). Create everything from silk fiber paper to molded bowls and votive candle holders. The list is endless for what can be made from pre-spun silk fiber, fused (using a polymer) into a stiff paper. Cut the “paper” and sew it into a bag or hat. Create small sculpture pieces that are molded to shape or dream up whatever you want. You’ll get enough silk to create several small projects while you are learning what this can do. $65 includes materials.
The fashion show at the Make It Alaskan Festival was a blast. Nothing compares with the joy of seeing one’s creations up on the runway 3 days in a row. I’ve moved the garments to 2nd Run on D Street and 7th in downtown Anchorage. They are for sale there.
